Results from a community based, environmental intervention asthma project in rural eastern NC (20m Lecture)

Asthma has become a focus of clinical research and public health programs because it is one of the most common chronic childhood diseases. Asthma results in increased health care utilization, high health care costs, and indirect costs such as missed school days and missed work days for caretakers. Environmental "triggers" in the home can have significant adverse impacts on children living with asthma. Home based, environmental intervention efforts have proved successful, however, little has been demonstrated in rural areas. This project discuss results from a recent asthma study and collaborative efforts towards expanding an asthma program throughout rural, eastern NC.
