This year, the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) again invites YOU to participate in the Abstract selection process for the Annual Educational Conference (AEC) & Exhibition, being held in partnership with the International Federation of Environmental Health. The "Be a Voice" initiative gives you the opportunity to tell us what you'd like to experience at the AEC. Tell us topics you'd like to hear about and speakers you'd like to see. View submitted abstracts and provide feedback on them. Help NEHA develop a training and education experience that continues to advance the proficiency of the environmental health profession AND helps create bottom line improvements for your organization!

Hoarding Houses: Yup, that's nasty. Now what do we do? (50m Lecture)

Hoarding houses and the related response are an emerging public health issue. An increase in reports, likely due to popular television shows showcasing hoarders, has spotlighted the need for a coordinated investigation and response. The investigation of hoarding houses is typically much different than the normal day to day activities undertaken by Public Health. These investigations typically involve numerous governmental agencies and the affected community. Partner agencies typically include, but are not limited to, Animal Control, Code Enforcement, Law Enforcement, Fire/EMS, and Adult and Child Protective Services. Pre-event relationship and protocol development is essential in successful responses. The broad latitude that is legislatively granted to Public Health makes it the ideal agency to coordinate the response to these events.
