The "Be a Voice" initiative gives you the opportunity to tell us what you'd like to experience at the AEC. Tell us topics you'd like to hear about and speakers you'd like to see. View submitted abstracts and provide feedback on them. Help NEHA develop a training and education experience that continues to advance the proficiency of the environmental health profession AND helps create bottom line improvements for your organization!

FDA's Oral Culture Learner Project: Helping Food Employees Understand the Importance of Food Safety (50m Lecture)

Research suggests that regulators are predominately print culture learners and food workers are predominately oral culture learners. The concept of print versus oral culture learning styles has to do with the way we receive and
process information. Given that the majority of food safety training materials and instructional methods commonly in use today are designed by and for print culture learners, these materials typically lack in their ability to communicate,in a compelling manner, the reasons why implementing these practices is important. To address this gap FDA's Oral Culture Learner Project was launched as a collaborative effort with industry, academia, and regulatory to design posters, storyboards, and video testimonials that assist food employees with understanding the reasons why following safe food preparation practices is important to prevent illness, deaths, and loss of income an reputation resulting from outbreaks.
