Exploring, Planning, Implementing, and Evaluating Collaborations to Promote Health in a Dynamic Environment (20m Lecture)

The University of Maryland Extension- HealthSmart/ Fostering Healthy and Safe Environments Impact team is helping Maryland residents reduce impacts from environmental health hazards. While its Healthy Homes Program, the home environment, and home environmental health hazards have been the traditional foundations, Fostering Healthy and Safe Environments is working on building and supporting a holistic approach with a broader and more comprehensive framework. Collaborations with financial, nutrition, literacy, youth, and agriculture specialists in Extension, as well as other Maryland resources, will produce mutual benefits as well as better support catalysts for change to improve the social, environmental, and economic conditions for residents of Maryland.

The proposed lecture will illustrate key features of how the University of Maryland Extension's HealthSmart/Fostering Healthy and Safe Environments Impact Team, based on its Healthy Homes Program, is exploring, planning, implementing, and evaluating collaborations to promote health in a dynamic environment. This includes a community-based, socio-ecological approach to the understanding, management, and measurement of programming. Participants in this interactive session will learn about the Healthy Homes Program and its application as an example holistic framework that may be applied to other environmental health programs to assist with systematic program improvements and practical evaluation techniques. Participants will be guided on strategies to help them integrate practical lessons learned as well as applicable tools and techniques to help promote health in a dynamic environment through a comprehensive framework.
