Since 1966, the American Academy of Sanitarians (AAS) has elevated
the standards, improved the practice, advanced the professional proficiency and
promoted the highest levels of ethical conduct among professional sanitarians
in every field of environmental health. AAS members have included many of the
early pioneers in the Environmental Health profession who were instrumental in founding
the Academy and continued to encourage professional growth, academic
achievement and scholarly publications by its members. The AAS archive contains
a unique collection of member publications, presentations, papers and videos
from not only those who created the modern practice of environmental health,
but those who continue to revitalize and improve its service to mankind. As
time goes on, the experiences and contributions of these EH innovators become
more valuable, and their perspectives should be shared with the current
generation of practitioners. Therefore, AAS proposes an Environmental Health Master Class – a guided conversation with an Environmental Health patriarch, to allow a longitudinal reflection on the EH profession, where he/she can share their knowledge, reflect on their experiences, and provide a venue for EH history to come alive. Using a semi-structured interview format, an animated host/moderator will take a prominent EH professional or person of great significance to the EH field through an engaging conversational journey to reminisce about their career, their EH challenges, failures and triumphs, their philosophy on EH, and hopes and visions for the bright future of this profession. The audience will be engaged in the conversation and reflections with Q&A throughout the session.
