This year, the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) again invites YOU to participate in the Abstract selection process for the Annual Educational Conference (AEC) & Exhibition, being held in partnership with the International Federation of Environmental Health. The "Be a Voice" initiative gives you the opportunity to tell us what you'd like to experience at the AEC. Tell us topics you'd like to hear about and speakers you'd like to see. View submitted abstracts and provide feedback on them. Introduction.  Too much fluoride in drinking-water, can give rise to a number of undesirable effects like dental fluorosis, crippling skeletal fluorosis, ossification of ligaments, spinal cord compression and radiculomyeopathy.

The aim of this study 1. To assess the necessity of community water fluoridation and to 2.To ascertain the optimum level of fluoride in the community water in order to prevent dental caries among citizens of the cities of Volusia County.

Background. Currently, 66.2% of Volusia County residents on community water system receive fluoridated water. More than 60% of the US population has access to fluoridated water through public water supply system.  Fluoridation of drinking water is considered as one of the ten grand public health achievements in United States during 20th century. I have prepared comprehensive literature reviews of fluoride therapies based on national and international researches.  My study reveals the decline of prevalence of dental caries in the both the fluoridated and unfluoridated community water consumers. Although the fluoridated community had less prevalence of dental caries, differences between the fluoridated and non-fluoridated communities are not statistically significant. Many European countries never adopted community water fluoridation policy. Many countries have naturally high fluoride level in the water. Some European countries have discontinued community water fluoridation.  Many cities of Canada and USA voted against water fluoridation.
The US national policy on water fluoridation has been changed. It was 0.7 ppm to 1.7pmm. The US Department of Health and Human Services in consultation with EPA recommends 0.7ppm since January 7, 2011.

Conclusion. When comparing regions where adjacent communities exist, with or without water fluoridation, it is important to judge all the information’s to make a decision on fluoride supplementation.
