This year, the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) again invites YOU to participate in the Abstract selection process for the Annual Educational Conference (AEC) & Exhibition, being held in partnership with the International Federation of Environmental Health. The "Be a Voice" initiative gives you the opportunity to tell us what you'd like to experience at the AEC. Tell us topics you'd like to hear about and speakers you'd like to see. View submitted abstracts and provide feedback on them. Help NEHA develop a training and education experience that continues to advance the proficiency of the environmental health profession AND helps create bottom line improvements for your organization!

Getting through the Swamp – Communicating the Value of Environmental Health (1hr 50m Learning Lab Tabletop/Group Exercise)

Over the past 3 years, with funding from CDC NCEH/ATSDR, APHA and the FrameWorks Institute conducted research to illuminate how the public thinks about environmental health – “the swamp of public understanding” - and to develop new messaging strategies that “reframe” the issue to garner understanding and support for environmental health programs. This Learning Lab will equip environmental health professionals with tools and strategies to get through the swamp and effectively convey the value of their work. A multi-media presentation will provide participants a clear look at current public understanding of environmental health and research results. Using tested messages, metaphors and other communications tactics, participants will practice reframing their own messages and become adept in the new approach.  Participants will become familiar with resources and materials to support their day-to-day communication efforts and have an opportunity to practice with one another. By the end of the session, participants will be able to use evidence-based messaging tools to frame their own communications.
