The influence of the number and density of alcohol licenses
on the availability of alcohol and its association with violent crime presents
a formative challenge to health professionals. The development of
intervention efforts is essential to reduce the negative public health, safety,
and economic consequences to our social environment. A recent investigation in
Dane County, Wisconsin identified areas of the county at higher risk from
alcohol-related impacts and is currently using this information to further
understand the multi-faceted issues of harm related to excessive alcohol use,
identify root causes, and provide this information to stakeholders to
facilitate the development of potential intervention. The information
gained from this investigation in Wisconsin has many broad applications that
can guide other communities in similar efforts to address this continuing
public health challenge to our social environment.

The "Be a Voice" initiative gives you the opportunity to tell us what you'd like to experience at the AEC. Tell us topics you'd like to hear about and speakers you'd like to see. View submitted abstracts and provide feedback on them. Help NEHA develop a training and education experience that continues to advance the proficiency of the environmental health profession AND helps create bottom line improvements for your organization!
